New Voices, New Sound Worlds: Simolka-Wohlhauser in Erlangen
On October 10, 2026, the duo Simolka-Wohlhauser will perform at the Bürgersaal of Palais Stutterheim in Erlangen. As part of their 17th autumn tour, the Basel duo presents current contemporary vocal music with Christine Simolka on soprano and René Wohlhauser as baritone and pianist.
Music of the Present with Immediate Stage Impact
“New Songs from Europe” leads directly into the sound language of the 21st century. The program combines precisely composed structures with expressive stage performance, improvisation, theatricality, and electronic sound colors. Thus, a concentrated concert experience emerges, blending chamber music, music theater, and experimental vocal art.
World Premieres by European Composers
A central focus is on a total of ten world premieres. Works by Violeta Dinescu, Volker Ignaz Schmidt, Jean-Claude Wolff, Camille Kerger, Thorsten Gubatz, Roman Vlad, Vlad Răzvan Baciu, and René Wohlhauser open different perspectives on today’s composition. Settings of poetry, word games, sound-poetic experiments, and contrasting vocal colors meet a sensitive pianistic accompaniment.
Soprano, Baritone, and Piano in Intense Dialogue
Christine Simolka and René Wohlhauser shape the music as a direct dialogue of voice, language, and resonance. Between clear articulation, broadly spaced singing lines, and finely tuned synchronization, a live atmosphere is created that makes every detail audible. The Bürgersaal offers an intimate setting with immediate proximity between the audience and the stage performance.
An Evening for Curious Ears
The concert is aimed at all who wish to discover contemporary classical music and want to engage with new forms of musical expression. The 17th autumn tour takes the duo through several European cities, making Erlangen an important stop for current vocal music.
Admission is free, and a collection will be taken. Those who want to experience music not only as sound but as a living encounter with sound, language, and present find an exceptional concert evening at “New Songs from Europe.”
