100 Years of the Mastery Rights of Household Management: Experiencing History, Understanding the Future

A century of professional recognition is visible in the City Library of Erlangen: The exhibition “100 Years of the Mastery Rights of Household Management: We Master the Future” connects professional, women's, and social history with current issues surrounding professional household management.

A Milestone for Vocational Education

The focal point is the year 1925. At that time, the first female master practitioners of household management received their master certificates. This was preceded by the entry of the profession of household manager into the artisans' registry in 1915. This historical step opened up new paths for women in professional qualification and strengthened their economic and social independence.

Historical Documents and New Perspectives

Historical posters, documents, and exhibits show how household management has developed over 100 years. The exhibition highlights how much expertise, organization, and responsibility lie behind professional household work. Themes such as provision, care, sustainability, climate goals, and demographic change bridge the gap to the present.

Household Management as a Key Social Competence

The presentation by DHB – Network Household e. V. puts a professional field at the center that shapes families, institutions, and social coexistence. Household management appears not as a private side activity, but as a versatile field of work and knowledge with significance for social security, care, and the future of qualified services.
