Blue Gold: Water as the Foundation of Life and Global Responsibility

Water is the origin of all life and at the same time a resource whose availability is unevenly distributed worldwide. The annual exhibition "Blue Gold – Water Here and Elsewhere" of the World Shop Erlangen focuses on the ecological, social, and political significance of water.

An Exhibition Between Local Experience and Global Perspective

The exhibition connects the living environment of Erlangen with international contexts. Students from the Jakob-Herz-School and the City Economic School participate, as do the project partnership Erlangen–Bkeftine in Lebanon, the city partnership Erlangen–San Carlos in Nicaragua, the Forum Water of the Erlangen Sustainability Advisory Board, and the initiative weitsicht ERlangen.

Water as a Cultural and Social Topic

In the exhibition atmosphere of the Neustädter Church, water is not only viewed as a natural phenomenon. The presentation opens a reflection on social contexts: Access to clean drinking water, global justice, climate change, and responsible use of natural resources combine to form an urgent theme of cultural education.

Accompanying Program with Discussion, Film, and City Tour

The annual exhibition is accompanied by an extensive program. This includes the city tour "Watercourse", a harvest Thanksgiving service on the theme of water, as well as film screenings of "Watermark" and "And Then the Rain". On October 13, a live connection to Lebanon is scheduled under the title "Water for Bkeftine".

An Artistic Experience with Social Impact

The exhibition invites you to an aesthetic experience that links perception and responsibility. In the quiet spatial effect of the church, the theme of water gains a special presence: as a visible element, a cultural symbol, and as the basis for a just coexistence.

Visitors can expect an informative, intergenerational exhibition with an international horizon and local commitment. Anyone who wants to see water as precious "blue gold" anew and understand the global entanglements of our daily lives should experience this artistic experience and educational offer live in the Neustädter Church.
