From Several Threads: Textile Art, Memories, and Encounters in Erlangen
The art project From Several Threads transforms the neighborhood center Die Villa into an open space for shared art observation, cultural education, and creative encounters. On October 9, 2026, artist Karina Liutaia invites you to an open textile art workshop from 3 PM to 5 PM.
When Fabrics Preserve Stories
The focus is on fabrics, threads, drawings, and personal memories. Patchwork, embroidery, and textile collage combine to create a participatory artistic practice, where textile materials become carriers of biography and local history. Old clothing, fabric scraps, and narrated experiences take on a new aesthetic form.
Textile Art between Craft and Contemporary Art
Karina Liutaia operates at the intersection of textile art, theater, and participatory art. After a craft training in fashion design in Saint Petersburg, she studied at the University of Arts Bremen. Her projects combine knitting, embroidery, and sewing with artistic research, discussions, and collective working processes. For her research into regional textile and labor history, she received the art scholarship from the city of Bamberg in 2023.
Working Worlds of Erlangen's Textile History
The project looks at work and life stories from Erlangen's textile industry. Memories of former employees of ERBA meet the experiences of those who work today in production, management, design, sales, logistics, fashion, or textiles. From interviews, sketches, and textile fragments, patchwork portraits and new artistic works emerge.
An Artistic Experience to Participate In
The exhibition atmosphere grows from collective action. Colors, textile surfaces, thread gradients, and the tactile quality of the materials provide a sensuous aesthetic experience. The workshop understands art not as a distant presentation, but as a lively process: every seam, every drawing, and every piece of memory can become part of a collective installation.
Conclusion
From Several Threads offers an accessible art experience for everyone who wants to connect textile art, local history, and communal creativity. The open workshop in the Villa makes visible how cultural testimonies emerge from personal memories and how individual threads create a shared image. Admission is free – a great opportunity to experience the aesthetic experience live in Erlangen.
