From Several Threads: Textile Art as a Shared Memory Image

The art project From Several Threads invites you to an open textile art workshop with the artist Karina Liutaia at the community center Die Villa. Fabrics, threads, drawings, and personal memories combine to create a participatory artistic practice where a collective image emerges from individual fragments.

When Fabrics Preserve Stories

The focus is on textile materials as carriers of biography and urban history. Old clothing, fabric scraps, and shared experiences receive a new aesthetic form through patchwork, embroidery, and textile collage. The examination of the works leads directly into the creative process: each stitch and each thread tells a story of origin, labor, and memory.

Textile Art Between Craft and Contemporary Art

Karina Liutaia works at the intersection of textile art, theater, and participatory art. Her projects connect knitting, embroidery, and sewing with artistic research, conversations, and collective working processes. After training in fashion design in St. Petersburg, she studied at the University of Arts Bremen. For her research on regional textile and labor history, she received the 2023 art scholarship from the city of Bamberg.

Work Environments and Textile Memories

From Several Threads focuses on the work and life stories of the textile industry. Memories of former employees of ERBA intersect with experiences from production, administration, design, sales, logistics, fashion, and textiles. From interviews, sketches, and textile fragments, patchwork portraits and new artistic works emerge.

An Artistic Experience to Participate In

The exhibition atmosphere grows from the collective doing. Colors, textile surfaces, thread gradients, and the tactile quality of the materials open up a sensory aesthetic experience. The workshop perceives art not as a distanced presentation but as a vibrant process of cultural education. Visitors experience how craft techniques, social memory, and contemporary installation intertwine.

Conclusion

From Several Threads offers an accessible artistic experience for all who wish to connect textile art, urban history, and communal creativity. The open workshop at Die Villa makes visible how personal memories can create cultural testimonies and how individual threads form a shared image. Admission is free – a great opportunity to experience the aesthetic journey live in Erlangen.
