Colors as Memory, Hope, and Cultural Bridge
The exhibition Ukrainian Folk Art: Petrykiwka Painting – The Soul at the Tip of the Brush invites you to an intensive encounter with a traditional decorative art form that is part of the intangible UNESCO cultural heritage, held at vhs Erlangen. Bright colors, floral ornaments, and fine lines create an exhibition atmosphere that is both poetic and political.
An Art Form with a Lively History
Petrykiwka painting stands for joy of life, connection to nature, and cultural identity. The exhibited works by Tetiana Liudvychenko from Brovary, along with selected pieces from her workshops, provide direct access to a painting style that impressively combines tradition, craftsmanship, and personal expression.
Between Observing Works and Cultural Education
Particularly noteworthy is the educational dimension of this art experience: the presentation was created in cooperation with the Office for Equal Opportunities and Diversity / International Relations and the volunteer initiative Spilnota. As such, the exhibition becomes not only a place of aesthetic experience, but also a space for cultural education and intercultural understanding.
The Artist Tetiana Liudvychenko
Tetiana Liudvychenko, born in 1960 in Berdyansk, graduated from the art school in Berdyansk as well as the National University for Technology and Design in Kyiv and studied the theory and practice of art therapy. She leads a painting circle for Petrykiwka painting at the House of Children and Youth Creativity in Brovary. Her work combines meditative calmness with positive energy and makes visible how powerful painting can act as an expression of community and self-efficacy.
Why the Visit is Worthwhile
Visitors to this exhibition will not only experience vibrant folk art but also a multifaceted symbol of cultural resilience. Petrykiwka painting speaks of memory, hope, and the power of the creative gesture. A visit is worthwhile for anyone who wants to directly experience art history, artisanal precision, and the emotional impact of ornament and color.
Conclusion: This exhibition offers a touching art experience between tradition and the present. It is free of charge, accessible without prior registration, and invites visitors to discover Ukrainian folk art live in Erlangen.
