Theaterfest 2026: A Day Full of Stage Magic in Erlangen
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, when the 2026/27 season begins, das schauspiel erlangen opens its doors for a theater festival full of discoveries. From 12:00 PM, the Markgrafentheater, Theaterhof, and Theater in der Garage transform into a lively meeting point for theater fans, families, and curious visitors. Admission to the theater festival offerings is free.
Behind the Scenes of the Markgrafentheater
Theaterfest combines a festival atmosphere with exclusive insights into the work of a theater house. Guests experience how stage spaces, workshops, and technical infrastructure shape theater operations through theater and technical tours. The theater route leads through areas that are usually hidden from the audience.
Music, Scenes, and New Productions
The program includes concerts, live music, and insights into upcoming productions. Scenes from Eat My Fear, Open Call: Oklahama, and Der letzte löscht das Licht provide a taste of the artistic diversity of the new season. Contemporary theater forms, dance theater, live radio play, and direct encounters with the ensemble are at the center.
Participation Program for Children and Families
Theaterfest is specifically aimed at both young and old. Participation activities, photo booths, craft stations, a puppet workshop, and a sneak preview with puppetry create a playful community feeling. The children's and youth committee of the Südwindfestival is also shaping its own offering on the rehearsal stage Glocke.
Festival Frei Bordsteinkante as Cultural Framework
Theaterfest is embedded in the festival Frei Bordsteinkante in the Erlangen old town. Together with other cultural offerings and the parallel craft fair, a varied event day between theater, music, art, and encounters unfolds. The festival organization focuses on short distances, open doors, and an accessible cultural experience.
A Special Season Kick-off
A highlight is the cooking and talk show Intendant kocht, where Jonas Knecht welcomes guests from various productions, introduces new ensemble members, and prepares for the 2026/27 season. In the Theater in der Garage, the audience can also expect scenes from the live radio play Der letzte löscht das Licht and insights into the creation of stage sounds.
Theaterfest promises an open multi-day experience in kickoff format: an intense cultural day filled with stage air, music, participation moments, and direct contact with the theater community. Anyone who wants to experience theater not just in the auditorium but as a living production site will find the perfect season start in Erlangen.
