Friedrich Rückert in the Neustadt Church: Poetry, Memory, and a Moving Heritage Day

On Heritage Day, the Neustadt University Church Erlangen focuses on one of the great Franconian poets: Friedrich Rückert. The lecture-guided tour "A Poet Who Lost His Heart" connects literature, local history, and music to create a unique experience in the church space.

A Literary Place with Biographical Depth

Rückert lived from 1788 to 1866 and shaped German literature as a poet, translator, and professor of oriental languages. A significant chapter of his work took place in Erlangen: the university appointed him as a professor in 1826, and the city continues to remember him as a language artist, family man, and cultural bridge builder. The event impressively brings these traces together in the historic ambiance of the Neustadt Church.

Language Art, Music, and Intellectual Expansiveness

The program emphasizes the close connection between word and sound. Historical recordings, a glimpse into Liebesfrühling, and appropriate organ music by Prof. Dr. Konrad Klek create a reading atmosphere that goes far beyond a classical tour. Those who appreciate literary quality, cultural discourse, and an intimate author encounter will experience a concentrated, sensory access to Rückert's work.

Heritage Day in a Special Atmosphere

The Neustadt University Church provides the ideal setting: a place with historical aura where architecture, music, and literature intertwine. Petra Dorothea Kraus will guide the program on September 13, 2026, at 3:15 PM and 4:15 PM and will clearly demonstrate why Rückert remains relevant as a mediator between cultures to this day.

Conclusion

This event combines knowledge, atmosphere, and poetry into an inspiring literary experience. Anyone wishing to rediscover Friedrich Rückert or hear his voice in the sound of a special place should not miss visiting the Neustadt Church in Erlangen.
