Children's Cathedral in Erlangen-Bruck: Discover, Experience, and Celebrate Faith Together

When children shape a church space with their own ideas, questions, and imagination, a special faith experience emerges. The Children's Cathedral in the Protestant Church of St. Peter and Paul invites families, school classes, kindergarten groups, and all interested individuals to experience Christian spirituality in a lively, creative, and child-friendly way.

Opening with Harvest Festival and Children’s Project Band

The opening will take place on October 4, 2026, with a joyful participatory worship service for the harvest festival. Movement, modern songs, and communal singing shape the celebration. The service will be accompanied by the Children's Project Band under the direction of Stefan Spinnler and Martin Tontsch. Regional Bishop Elisabeth Hann von Weyhern will also participate in the opening service.

A Church by Children, with Children, and for Children

From October 4 to 18, the medieval church of St. Peter and Paul will transform into a temporary pop-up project. Children have contributed their own ideas on what a church space can look like in which they feel comfortable and can sense God. This will result in creative experience areas featuring a cuddle cave, climbing activities, craft and construction stations, as well as other opportunities for play, exploration, and creativity.

Playfully Discover Christian Traditions

In the play church, children will explore central stations of church life. Worship services, baptism, communion, weddings, and funerals will be made playfully accessible with child-friendly materials and attire. Thus, the Children's Cathedral connects religious education, liturgy, biblical stories, and communal learning with an atmosphere full of movement and curiosity.

Diverse Program for Families and Groups

During the two project weeks, there will be creative and participatory stations, Bible storytelling times, evening devotions, special worship services, a dinner service, and various concerts. Kindergarten and after-school groups, as well as elementary school classes, can explore the church space together. Families and individual visitors will experience an open spiritual community where reflection, play, music, and interaction are interconnected.

Getting to St. Peter and Paul Church

The church is located at Fürther Straße 42 in Erlangen-Bruck. The bus stop Bruck / ER Kirche is right in front of the church and is served by bus lines 285 and 294. The S-Bahn station is about a 17-minute walk away. The historic church itself provides an impressive setting for the religious experience: the medieval sacred building connects history, prayer, and communal experiences.

The Children's Cathedral gives children space to discover faith with all their senses and actively shape the church. Visitors can expect a welcoming opening service with music, movement, harvest festival, and community. Experience the start of this special project live in Erlangen-Bruck and celebrate together with children, families, and the community.
