When the crypto hype becomes a fairy tale
At the Theater in the Garage, the Schauspiel Erlangen invites you to a special stage experience: In fairycoin – a crypto fairy tale, the audio play is not only experienced through headphones but collectively in the theater space. On Monday, October 26, 2026, the intimate studio stage transforms into a resonance space for voices, sounds, and the dazzling tales of quick money.
A crypto fairy tale between the moon and Bitcoin dreams
Natalie Baudy connects the imagery of classic fairy tales with the present of crypto hype in her play. While Satoshi Nakamoto, the legendary inventor of Bitcoin, looks down from the moon at the consequences of his creation, treasure seekers on Earth set out to find great wealth. An Icelandic fishing couple risks their possessions, a journalist attempts to decode the myth behind the crypto boom, and two tech bros undergo a fairytale transformation.
Dramaturgy with satirical brilliance
Directed by David Moser, the production examines the narrative structures behind the digital gold rush atmosphere. What makes the promises of crypto so seductive? Which old fairy tales of ascent, happiness, and downfall reappear in the stories of the tech world? Baudy exposes the shiny surface of the hype while simultaneously revealing the cracks that become visible underneath.
Voices, composition, and theatrical atmosphere
The acting talent unfolds primarily through voice here. With Bibiana Beglau, Mareike Beykirch, Meike Droste, Marek Harloff, Alexej Lochmann, Vidina Popov, Lars Rudolph, Taner Sahintürk, Bernhard Schütz, Aram Tafreshian, and Sabine Vitua, the production assembles a striking ensemble. Sebastian Jurchens' composition, precise sound direction, and acoustic dramaturgy create a unique stage world where digital fantasy and fairytale elevation intertwine.
Listening together instead of consuming alone
The Audio Play Garage focuses on a relaxed theater atmosphere in the attached theater café. Drinks, concentrated listening, and the proximity of the studio stage combine to create an unusual form of stage art. The approximately 55-minute audio play requires no prior knowledge but opens an imaginary space where the audience and production meet acoustically.
Classification and artistic context
fairycoin was created as a Deutschlandfunk Kultur production in 2025. Natalie Baudy has been working as a writer and dramaturg in the theater and performance field since 2018 and has been part of the artistic management of Schauspiel Erlangen since 2024. For her work Rauschen. Or: If you don't exist, please get out of my light. Thank you., she received the Chemnitz Theater Prize for young drama. Her crypto fairy tale was also selected for a production at the Theater Kosmos Bregenz.
This stage experience does not present its audience with an abundance of backdrops but with acoustic precision, satirical sharpness, and a story about our longing for great happiness. Those who wish to experience theater as a living space for thought will find in the Audio Play Garage an unusual encounter of audio play, acting, and contemporary dramaturgy.
