Look closely! – Discover Erlangen's city history in detail
On October 4, 2026, the tour Look closely! invites you to experience Erlangen with a sharpened gaze. In the city center, house signs, inscriptions, curious street names, and unusual architectural styles tell stories from the past. What is easily overlooked in everyday life opens the door to fascinating stories of cultural heritage during this city tour.
Hidden signs in the urban landscape
The tour leads to small peculiarities closely linked to the local history of Erlangen. A hamster above the entrance of the Old University Library, an inconspicuous balcony at the marketplace, and the mysterious Stone Feet become starting points for historical discoveries. Architecture and urban landscape appear in a new context.
History to touch
The two-hour tour combines historical context with immediate observation. Instead of just visiting well-known sights, the focus is on details on facades, squares, and streets. This creates a vivid discovery experience between urban architecture, places of memory, and passed-down stories.
Meeting point and schedule
The city tour begins at 2:00 PM in front of the Old Town Church at Martin Luther Square and is expected to end around 4:00 PM. The event is organized by Geschichte Für Alle e.V. – Institute for Regional History. Participation costs 13 euros regularly, 11 euros reduced. Children and young people up to 18 years participate free of charge. Ticket information can be obtained by calling 09131 8951-0.
Conclusion
Look closely! is aimed at everyone who wants to discover Erlangen beyond obvious landmarks. The tour connects local history, historical architecture, and surprising city stories into a cultural enrichment. Those who want to notice the small traces in the urban landscape more consciously in the future will see Erlangen with new eyes during this tour.
