Blue Gold: Water as a Source of Life, Artistic Theme, and Global Responsibility
The annual exhibition “Blue Gold – Water Here and Elsewhere” invites you to an intense examination of the most precious resource of our planet at the Neustädter Church in Erlangen. The art experience combines aesthetic experience, cultural education, and sustainable development with local and international perspectives.
An Exhibition Between Art, Education, and Engagement
At the center are exhibits by students from Jakob-Herz-Schule and the Municipal Business School Erlangen. Their works demonstrate how young people artistically reflect on water as an essential basis of life, a societal challenge, and a question of the future. The presentation combines installation, informational graphics, model building, and documentary contributions into a multi-voiced exhibition.
Sponge City Model and Climate-Adjusted Spaces
A special highlight is the Sponge City model, developed by participants of the Planet A holiday camp in the city of Erlangen. The illustrative construction makes it visible how cities store rainwater, prevent flooding, and create climate-resilient living spaces. Shapes, materials, and spatial arrangement translate complex ecological relationships into an understandable aesthetic experience.
Water Here and Elsewhere
The exhibition leads from the local water reality of Erlangen to global questions of supply justice. Projects from the partner cities of San Carlos in Nicaragua, Bkeftine in Lebanon, and Brovary in Ukraine illustrate different challenges and solutions. Contributions from the World Shop Erlangen, current figures from the UN World Water Report 2026, and the UNICEF exhibition “No Water for All” expand the exhibition space shaped less by art history and more by socio-political aspects.
The Neustädter Church as Exhibition Space
In the exhibition atmosphere of the Neustädter Church, sacred space, informational art, and societal curation come together. Light, spatial effect, and the special materiality of the church give the exhibits a concentrated presence. The examination of the works thus becomes a silent but intense engagement with the value of water.
Accompanying Program to the Exhibition
The accompanying program deepens the content through a city tour on the topic of water, a harvest thanksgiving service, film screenings, and exchanges with international project partners. Thus, the exhibition creates diverse access for families, school classes, politically interested visitors, and anyone wanting to engage with sustainability and global responsibility.
Conclusion: “Blue Gold – Water Here and Elsewhere” combines a sensory exhibition atmosphere with solid educational work and international dialogue. Visitors experience water as a source of life, a cultural motif, and a common future task. A visit to the Neustädter Church enriches the aesthetic experience and encourages a new consideration of one’s relationship with water.
